Sexual Harassment Is Never Acceptable

It is a growing problem in California that workers are subjected to unwanted sexual comments and advances from their colleagues and superiors. Sadly, too few employers take steps to combat this issue, while the employees subjected to this unfair treatment are left unsure what to do. It can be extremely difficult to talk about harassment openly and just as challenging to prove that it is occurring.

If you experience harassment in your workplace, or in any area of your life, it is helpful to report it as soon as you feel able to do so. Similarly, if you suspect that someone else is being harassed, making a report could help them significantly. Suffering unwanted sexual advances can be extremely distressing and often it is hard to know who to turn to. However, it is important to know that you are not alone and that you have the right to be treated with respect.

Harassment comes in many forms, from derogatory or suggestive comments to invasion of space, barring your way, and even physical contact. Make a note of any instances of harassment you experience, including the time, date, people involved, and what happened. This may help you if you decide to take legal action.

No one should have to endure mistreatment at work and our page on sexual harassment has further details on the steps you can take if you find yourself in this position. An attorney may also be able to offer advice and support you if you decide to take the matter to court and challenge those responsible.
